18 week twin pregnancy belly bump

Each week I look back at the last week, this week was week 18, then I think to myself how fortunate and blessed we are to be having such a great pregnancy thus far.  It is hard to believe how fast the whole process goes, in less than a year I will be posting baby photos.  Take a look back with me at the last week of our pregnancy with twins, vegan twins.

NOTE:  MY PHOTOS ARE TAKEN AT THE VERY END OF EACH WEEK, HENCE THESE TWO PHOTOS ARE TAKEN AT THE START OF WEEK 19.  NORMALLY I TAKE THESE PHOTOS AS I JUST WAKE UP ON SATURDAY MORNING, VERY EARLY, SANS MAKEUP AND HAIR CORRECTIONS. I DO NOT HIDE FROM SHARING MY EXPERIENCES, NOR MY GROWTH PHOTOS. PREGNANCY IS NOT SOMETHING EVERYONE CAN DO, ESPECIALLY A NATURAL TWIN PREGNANCY SO I WANT TO SHARE EVERY LITTLE PIECE OF TRUTH THE ENTIRE PROCESS.

Vegan Prenatal Vitamins: Why I chose to go with supplements

Vegan prenatal vitamins

As with everything in life, there is a lot of mixed views on taking daily prenatal vitamins (and postnatal).  There are a lot of vegans out on the blogosphere stating their choice to not go along the supplement path, while the other portion are completely for supplementation.  That’s why today I want to share my opinion and reasoning to give all of you another contrasting view.  A lot of research has been conducted on my part, along with advise from my OB/GYN whom is handling our twin vegan pregnancy.

Note: The photo was taken in 2017, so the bottle appearance may be slightly different than when you go to the stores, depending on the date.  This is not a stock photo.

My Thoughts on Pregnancy Weight Gain

Tags

, , ,

It seems as if one of the main aspects of pregnancy that woman are concerned with is weight gain, especially if having multiples.  My history shows me being overweight and working towards a healthier goal, one that I did achieve through healthy eating and exercise.  There was no starvation, no 1 banana rule for breakfast, and no triple workouts daily.  It did take more than a year to eliminate all of my extra weight, however I was able to keep it off for years to come.  Losing weight is a mindset, not something that can be done overnight.  So when I became pregnant, the elephant in the room was not me, but rather the idea of how I felt of gaining so much weight.  Here’s my opinion:

17 weeks twin pregnancy belly bump

17 weeks!  For a twin pregnancy, this means I have passed the half way mark at 17.5 weeks, since I am posting this in my 18th week.  Twin pregnancies average around 35 weeks, so this means we are 1/2 way there for a healthy birth of our twins.  Not much has changed, besides the appearance of my belly bump (which is a thrill as it means the babies are growing).  From the front, I do not believe many people could tell I am pregnant with twins, from the side on the other hand it is obvious.  This last week we heard from our 16th week blood tests and the nursery furniture finally arrived.  Things are really coming along, we just can not wait until the twins are born healthy and happy.

NOTE:  MY PHOTOS ARE TAKEN AT THE VERY END OF EACH WEEK, HENCE THESE TWO PHOTOS ARE TAKEN AT THE START OF WEEK 18.

What I Ate 1st Trimester: In Photos (Part 2)

Pregnancy can be confusing as books on the market compete with each other for information and doctors will instruct each one of us differently.  It’s hard to tell what one should or should do, let alone what we should be eating daily.  I read this book that stated, vegans can not get pregnant, I was shocked to find out this information as I was already pregnant with twins.  Additionally, I once read pregnant mommas should be eating all the time, more than 3x the amount as normal, around 2200 calories at least per day.  The information did not take into consideration the expectant mothers’ body structure, not just pre-pregnancy weight.  If I were to eat 2200 calories a day, I would be so sick I wouldn’t be able to keep everything down.  It’s always best to remember books and doctors do not know your body as much as you do, so take care of yourself as much as possible and listen to your instincts.  Personally, I am 4′ 11″ and a small frame, so that means I am well under the “gov’t average” of 5′ 2″.  So medical and book advice is always helpful to some extent but remember the suggestions are for an average sized person, which I am not sure about you but I am not sure how many people fit the “average” size.

Hence, I am not afraid to share what I eat on a daily basis.  I am not shy of what I am eating, I am not dieting nor am I am I trying to keep to a low weight while pregnant.  The health of my two babies are my main goal, that is what keeps me eating more and more each day.  But, I have a rule that I have to eat at least 3 good quality meals a day and if I want something sweet I have it.  So, in honor of not dieting while pregnant, here is part 2 of what I ate during my 1st Trimester of pregnancy with our vegan twins.

What I ate first trimester in photos

Sitting today at the halfway point of our twin pregnancy, I am excited to share with you the meals I ate while going through the first trimester.  The first trimester is from ovulation to the end of the 12th week (the beginning of the 13th).  During this time, many researchers have found woman actually feel better on a vegan diet than on a standard carnivore diet.  It has been found meat and cow’s milk can actually cause women to get morning sickness, something I did not have to worry of since I am 100% vegan.  My meals were focused on nutrients, not gaining weight.  It is not essential to gain weight during the first trimester, even when having twins.

What I ate during 1st trimester vegan

Lots of inquiries have been raised for What I Ate Blogs during pregnancy, my meals were rather simple but full of necessary nutrition.  Right now I am in the 2nd trimester, so I have fully completed the 1st trimester, so everything I talk of and show in photos was eaten during almost the entire time.  Our vegan twins are growing on schedule and I have had the most fortunate 1st trimester feeling healthy and no morning sickness.  I had trepidations for writing this blog, since I didn’t want to sound as if I was forcing my preferred vegan diet on anyone, or as if I was judging anyone. So please use this information as more of an informative blog on just what I prefer, not what is mandatory for a healthy pregnancy just what I had success with so far.  Every pregnancy is completely different, results vary depending on a lot of different factors.  Hopefully you will enjoy and even if you are not pregnant, I am sure you will delight in the tasty, healthy recipes.

16th week twin pregnancy

Today marks the start of week 17, information below contains information from my 16th week of twin pregnancy.  Things have been going great so far, crossing fingers it continues, and we have been preparing for the arrival of our twins in June/July of this year.  As we have multiples, we are planning and preparing as much as possible for their arrival before our 3rd trimester.  Additionally, we have had the excitement of going to another OB/GYN appointment this week.  We go once a month as the pregnancy is going well so far, we will soon go twice a month in the future as we get closer.  But for now we are thrilled to see our twins growth every 4 weeks.  Click below if you would like to know more information.

Note:  My photos are taken at the very end of each week, hence these two photos are taken at the start of week 17.  Normally I take these photos as I just wake up on Saturday morning, very early, sans makeup and hair corrections.  Unfortunately Genki Husband and I were super hungry this morning and forgot all about the photo shoot, so this week we have photos after I ate a very large breakfast.
