A bit late on this one, but still the same information. As I tell everyone, still a bit longer “thank goodness”. Things have been getting a bit busier around our house with arrangements to get family members out to Southern California so I have been a bit slow in posting my weekly pregnancy updates. Thankfully things are going great, a few changes and a bit of a larger belly which is fantastic! I’m not scared to hear “you are gigantic!” On the contrary, I love hearing this statement as it means the twins are growing inside, which is exactly what is necessary to avoid the NICU (hopefully). PREGNANCY MAKES A WOMAN SO GORGEOUS, I FULLY EMBRACE EVERY SECOND OF MY APPEARANCE DURING THIS TIME.
Month Due: June 2017
Twins Gender: Boy/Girl
Food: Watermelon and leafy green salads have become my go-to meal each day this last week. The temperature outside has turned warm, hence I feel as though my body is asking for fresh produce that is plentiful in water to provide my body with the nourishment it needs. Beans have also taken over our protein requirements, I reconstitute ours from dried beans (no cans). One of my favorites is making refried beans from pinto beans and just a small amount of vegetable broth. I take the refried beans and place them on a loaded salad full of various vegetables. Then I top it with vegan ranch and sodium-free hot sauce. For snacks, my go-to is of course large bowls of fresh fruit however I am also enjoying raw nuts and sliced vegetables.
Cravings: There’s really nothing I have had to subtract from my diet so I do not have many cravings. I am looking forward to having coffee and tea once again, it was a personal choice not to drink these during pregnancy. So I would have to say my only craving would be an iced coffee, iced coffee frappe, and/or green tea frappe.
Prenatal Vitamins: No changes, rather happy with the ones I am taking right now. Unless my OB/GYN sees something new, I am certain I will stick with these supplements until the end of the pregnancy.
Symptoms: Still getting the same symptoms but nothing that has really caused any issues or frustration. My OB/GYN is always amazed I do not have any real symptoms, or desire to “just get it over”. We are just blessed there are minimal symptoms.
Milestones: This week we had a specialist appointment which went much different what I had anticipated. Our scans were complete and the twins were found to be in perfect health once again, hooray! Each baby is now just under 5lbs, amazing! The discordance between the two is 1%, such a blessing they are sharing so well in the womb. We were praying for the twins to be just one 5lbs, but I think it was more wishful thinking than what should have been expected. We are very eager to have them be over 5lbs, the weight that will keep them, potentially, out of NICU. Each hospital is different however ours requires a baby to be over 34 weeks gestational age and over 5lbs to avoid time in the NICU. If under one of these requirements, even with perfect health, time is required for at least evaluation. So we are constantly praying for reaching those requirements. For my cervix, checked every appointment as we have twins, was also in pretty good health. The length is now 2.16 cm, down from 2.21 cm two weeks ago. As each week gets closer to delivery, the cervix is expected to reduce so my team of doctors are not concerned with this drop. Our only concern was a slight increase in my blood pressure, another common symptom during the last few appointments, as my OB has stated.
I’m Excited About: Reaching week 34, a safety zone for healthy twin birth. We are so blessed to have a wonderful team of doctors that have closely watched the progress of our pregnancy, especially when my cervix was in question. We know they were ultra-conservative at times however we are thankful for this since we are now approaching a healthy week for the twins to be delivered if necessary. If you are able to have such a team of doctors, I would highly suggest it, it is worth the extra money and time to have two babies born healthy and happy.
I’m Nervous About: Merely getting to the healthy week of delivery for our twins, I assume every new mother has this slight anxiety. My OB/GYN who will delivery the twins is very positive and we feel very optimistic he will do a stellar job, so it is not as much of a concern. Right now, I think our biggest concern, besides the health of the twins is just getting to the hospital and having everything go okay. Right now we have what I call ‘ying and yang’ babies, which means baby girl is in the perfect position for birth but baby boy has his head near my ribcage. So this means I will probably be going in for major surgery, a caesarean delivery. Some people are very passionate about which method of delivery is done, however I am not as concerned as long as the twins are delivered safe and sound. Also praying for my health during the process too.
Exercise:. More exercise rights have been given, as we are so close to the delivery date. I have been told, if I go into labor, they will not try to stop it since we are so close far along now. So now I can walk up to 20 minutes, as long as I do not feel any pressure or Braxton Hicks contractions while walking. Other than this, I can still do a little yoga and light cleaning. Nothing too strenuous as the twins placentas grow weaker throughout pregnancy (normal for twins), so I have to protect them from deteriorating or detaching.
Note: If you have any suggestions for a twin pregnancy, I would love to hear your comments. Or just anything in general, advice is always accepted and appreciated. Books and medical professionals can only give so much information, personal experience is sometimes much better than anything else.
