29 weeks twin pregnancy belly bump vegan twins

Last week in our 2’s, hooray!  It’s hard to believe we have made it to the stage where if the twins were born, they would have a high success rate for survival.  Pregnancy with twins can be very tricky, so every little step is a major achievement.  We are so thankful we have made it this far and are continuing to move on through this life changing experience.  Read below for more information about my symptoms and experiences through this week’s adventures of growing vegan twins.

Month Due: June 2017

Twins Gender: Boy/Girl

Food: Extreme hunger still has not hit, thank goodness, but I have been enjoying spring season foods.  While I may still not have a watermelon this season, berries have been a main contributor to the growth of the twins.  To add to my fruit obsession, I have been enjoying an apple sliced with peanut butter drizzled over the top (for added protein and to be cautious of my glucose levels).  As far as other foods, I am just enjoying the foods I normally consume, such as beans, leafy greens, tofu and etc.  Admittedly I have allowed for a few new processed vegan meat products into my diet (I’m not perfect), such as vegan Gardein burgers, Gimme Lean Breakfast sausage and Field Roast sausages.  These are only consumed maybe once a week, twice if I want extra protein.  For instance, 1 vegan sausage can contain around 26g protein with less than 10g fat.  Perfect for trying to consume at least 80-100g per day.  Additionally, desserts have come into play as to consume more food.  These snacks are all natural, organic, vegan cereal such as oatmeal, vegan health ‘cookies’ and even banana nice cream.  My main objectives when eating is vitamins, minerals and protein.

Cravings: Nothing that special, no Hollywood style cravings, just normal seasonal ones.  For instance, I love watermelon and can’t wait until I get the first one of the season.  (Yes, I’m obsessed, it’s an ongoing thing though.)  Basically I am just loving fruit, salads and Genki Husband’s weekly BBQ meal on the grill.  Yum!  (Best husband ever!)

Aversions: None, I’m assuming I will not have any for the duration of the pregnancy now.

Prenatal Vitamins:  No changes, rather happy with the ones I am taking right now.  I have added Magnesium Calm though since magnesium is found very little in our food today, even if a carnivore.  I take it mainly though for help with digestion as in the 3rd trimester I have read the digestion system slows down and can cause major constipation.  With a cervix that prefers to go up and down, it’s important not to get constipated.  This does the trick and it’s 100% natural and the brand I have contains calcium.

Symptoms: Things have been increasing as we get closer to the twins birth date.  This week I have been feeling more pulses in my “lower region”, no pain just a feeling such as a set of twitches.  My OB/GYN said this is of no concern, these will continue until the day of birth and would soon be accompanied by sharp pains at times.  Something to look forward to, yay!  Secondly, I have been having numb fingers only on my right hand as I sleep.  Again, nothing to be too worried about as it is due to circulation which is thanks to being pregnant.  Finally, I am feeling a bit more large, obviously since the twins are growing bigger by the day. No back pain yet, just a feeling of heaviness which causes me to be a bit more tired.

Milestones: We had another set of doctors’ appointments from our twin specialist team.  Since we are now into our 3rd trimester, we have to see each doctor every two weeks.  So we find out about the babies through the specialist ultrasound and then the OB/GYN checks on my health (along with explaining anything from our specialist review and answering our questions). The twins are still around 5% discordance from each other, amazing at this stage.  (Great than 20% is when doctors worry)  They are each around 3lbs each, right on target.  Health wise they were perfect again too.  My cervix was showing a very, very slight decline but nothing really to worry about just yet.

I’m Excited About:  Meeting our twins in less than two months now, so hard to believe it is coming so soon.  While we do not want the twins to come too early, we are still excited in anticipation on being legit parents to twins.

I’m Nervous About: My cervix shortened even more, a scary thought since we are so close to our goal week.  For twins, 34 weeks is the week they can be born and potentially go home without staying in the NICU.  Our OB/GYN has stated if there are no health issues and the twins are 5 lbs at 34 weeks, if born they will be perfectly fine with no worries.  We would prefer the twins to wait a bit longer but as long as they are healthy and can spend no time in the NICU, we will be happy.

Exercise: Still keeping everything low-key as the twins are getting heavier and heavier, over 6 lbs at our last appointment.   With that said, carrying the twins around is an achievement itself.  Otherwise I do a little prenatal yoga, lifting weight under 6 lbs (OB said no more) and light cooking and cleaning around the house.

Other thoughts and feelings:  We are just about complete with our hospital and baby bags, a few more things to add later or just before we leave the house.  Any suggestions, please leave a comment, I would love to know.
