20 Weeks along with our vegan twin pregnancy, that’s the 1/2 way point for singletons. My specialists tell me it is average for twins to be born around 34-36 weeks, induction is always scheduled at 38 weeks, no later. This might be different in your area however this is what SoCal doctors state in the states. Follow along with us during our vegan twin pregnancy week 20.
NOTE: MY PHOTOS ARE TAKEN AT THE VERY END OF EACH WEEK, HENCE THESE TWO PHOTOS ARE TAKEN AT THE START OF WEEK 21. NORMALLY I TAKE THESE PHOTOS AS I JUST WAKE UP ON SATURDAY MORNING, VERY EARLY, SANS MAKEUP AND HAIR CORRECTIONS. I DO NOT HIDE FROM SHARING MY EXPERIENCES, NOR MY GROWTH PHOTOS. PREGNANCY IS NOT SOMETHING EVERYONE CAN DO, ESPECIALLY A NATURAL TWIN PREGNANCY SO I WANT TO SHARE EVERY LITTLE PIECE OF TRUTH THE ENTIRE PROCESS.
Month Due: June/July 2017
Twins Gender: Announcement coming soon since we officially know and have 100% confirmation after our 20 week anatomy ultrasound. Gender reveal post coming soon- we can’t wait to share!
Food: No worries at all, I eat whatever I want and whenever I want to eat. I do not count calories and definitely do not restrict my food intake. Our twins are more important than vanity, so I would prefer to eat nutritionally sound foods when the babies tell me they are hungry. Yes, they already have me wrapped around their tiny fingers. My favorite foods right now are: quinoa/brown rice pasta, nutritional yeast, quinoa, rice, lentils and lots of greens and fruits.
Cravings: Still blessed with no serious cravings, I normally eat very healthy so my foods have not changed since pre-pregnancy. If anything, I guess I would say I am always craving water but that is because I’m building two babies so it’s totally normal.
Aversions: Nothing still… I’m a foodie so no surprise.
Prenatal Vitamins: Still Rainbow Light Vegan Prenatal Vitamins and Vegan DEVA DHA. Additionally, I love to add nutritional yeast on just about everything for the protein and B12 content.
Symptoms: The twins are very active all the time, hooray! Even though there is no link between activity in the womb and outside, I still hope this is a sign the twins will love being active like their parents. A few times they are moving so much I have to take a short break and rest for an hour or so, not very often though. Then they calm down and I can continue on with my day. Additionally, I have found when I sit for a long period of time, upon standing up my stomach does have a bit of pain and the babies just need to readjust. Nothing serious though, just takes a minute for the babies to find their placement. This occurs since the twins are side-by-side, as they are natural fraternal twins. Normally, IVF twins are on top of one another so this might be a difference with this symptom. Finally, I have found my stomach has become very tight, even though I use more than enough coconut oil and all-natural belly butter lotion. It just makes it all feel so real, I am thankful for each and every second of this pregnancy.
Milestones: My weight is still following along the guidelines of my OB/GYN, a pound a week. So far I have gained 11-12lbs, hooray! Genki Husband and I have noticed I have gained all the weight in my belly and breasts, so that’s a great sign of success of my food and exercise plan. But again, weight gain is not as important to me as long as the babies are growing properly. Another milestone is I can no longer see my toes when I just glance down at the ground, I can bend and see them however not at a glance.
I’m Excited About: Setting up all the items in the nursery for the twins, since we now know the gender of both. To go along with the nursery, we have also purchased a few items such as the car seats for both twins so we can setup the double stroller with the car seat adapters. Besides prep work, although it does seem a bit strange, I love to look at my twin baby belly every chance I get. We are only pregnant for so many months in our lives and I am taking every glance I can when possible. It is amazing to look at my belly and think of the two lives I am creating inside my stomach, admittedly a bit sci-fi thinking about it but still a double miracle in the making. I love to think of the twins size and watch to see when they move. It’s an amazing feeling that I believe only pregnant woman, or mothers can really understand.
I’m Nervous About: Nothing really is concerning me, nothing out of the ordinary I guess. My main concern is always if the twins are getting enough nutrition and are growing properly. This is probably a concern of every newbie mother, at least I hope. But, my belly is definitely growing so I assume the twins are growing properly.
Exercise: Every week I still try for at least 5 days of exercise, however, I do listen to my body at all times. There are some days I have plans to go for a nice walk however the weather is not on my schedule and/or my body just says I need to take another break day. When having twins, doctors suggest not to do too much since the body is already under stress (actually some say do not do anything – crazy). I’m thankful I feel so healthy and fit still, I will continue on until I feel a little stress on the body or if my doctors’ state I should stop since it’s hurting the growth of the twins.
Other thoughts and feelings: As mentioned last week, we purchased our double stroller and a few items for the nursery, including some clothes. This week we managed to decide and purchase our car seats from Buy Buy Baby (cheapest price thanks to the twin discount). We are thrilled to get this delivered to our house this week or next. While we still do have 4 months left, we are excited to start practicing using them with the stroller. We just need the adapters, something we are still researching as everyone states different adapters for our stroller travel system. Another few items we purchased were Organic Unbleached Cotton Refolds, kids hymnal music cd, clothes, crib skirts and so on. So many thing but we are getting closer to having purchased everything on our list. Since we live away from our family, we will not be having a baby shower so that means we are purchasing everything ourselves. This gets overwhelming as buying for just one baby is pricy, but two is very expensive. Anything for our twins safety and happiness though.
Note: If you have any suggestions for a twin pregnancy, I would love to hear your comments. Or just anything in general, advice is always accepted and appreciated. Books and medical professionals can only give so much information, personal experience is sometimes much better than anything else.
