Today I am thrilled to share with you my experience during my 19th week of pregnancy, a vegan twin pregnancy! This week my symptoms changed a bit and we purchased a new large item for our twins, doing it without assistance from family and friends can be challenging but more rewarding. If Genki Husband and I can do it, so can you! Please ignore the change in my belly bump photo shirt, it has turned warm here so a normal long-sleeve shirt was not cutting it anymore. I changed into a maternity shirt, even though it is an extra-small, it is large on me still. (Pants too! Anyone know a petite maternity clothes brand?) I am sure the twins will fill it out in the next few months of belly bump photos though. Click on the link to see all that has been going on this week, I love sharing with each and every one of you.
NOTE: MY PHOTOS ARE TAKEN AT THE VERY END OF EACH WEEK, HENCE THESE TWO PHOTOS ARE TAKEN AT THE START OF WEEK 19. NORMALLY I TAKE THESE PHOTOS AS I JUST WAKE UP ON SATURDAY MORNING, VERY EARLY, SANS MAKEUP AND HAIR CORRECTIONS. I DO NOT HIDE FROM SHARING MY EXPERIENCES, NOR MY GROWTH PHOTOS. PREGNANCY IS NOT SOMETHING EVERYONE CAN DO, ESPECIALLY A NATURAL TWIN PREGNANCY SO I WANT TO SHARE EVERY LITTLE PIECE OF TRUTH THE ENTIRE PROCESS.
Month Due: July 1, 2017 (but more likely late May or June, 2017 for twins)
Twins Gender: We know now! If you remember last week’s blog post, the exact day I was finishing the post was our twin ultrasound specialist appointment. Twins in America normally require two doctors as any multiple pregnancy is coined as a “high risk” one. I’m guessing this is due more to earning potential of the healthcare system but there is nothing that can be done about it since hospitals will not delivery twins if this process is not followed. It just means double the ultrasound photos. For now, I wish to keep this information private as we have not had the chance to tell everyone in our family. We live 3 hours from a lot of family and friends, so calling them all is a bit of a challenge. I will share this information with everyone, do not worry, I am such a proud mother-to-be, I would never be able to keep it from anyone.
Food: Still no worries here, I eat as I normally would pre-pregnancy, just more of it. (Benefits of the vegan diet!) I follow the 3 full meals a day plan, along with 3-5 full snacks daily. A snack is normally a large bowl of freshly cut mixed fruit, a apple with all natural/organic peanut butter, peanut butter pretzels, 1/2 a bag of organic sugar snap peas and/or anything else that looks appealing.
Cravings: Nothing still, just my normal fruit and vegetables. (But I had that pre-pregnancy)
Aversions: Nothing still… I’m a foodie so no surprise.
Prenatal Vitamins: Still Rainbow Light Vegan Prenatal Vitamins and Vegan DEVA DHA. Additionally, I love to add nutritional yeast on just about everything for the protein and B12 content.
Symptoms: Movements are still going strong, thank goodness! I love having them move around, at first it was weird however now every time I feel the movement I know they are excited and living the life. Movements seem to be stronger every time I go for a walk, some times they move opposite direction which means I have to stop for a second and let them do their flipping. Secondly, my breasts have been so incredibly itchy (sorry if that’s TMI). After researching, I found this is due to my milk supply continuing to increase. (Hooray!) Thirdly, a small amount of difficulty getting up off the soft sofa and also bed. It’s strange to have reduced usage of my stomach muscles but it is just something I am learning to get around. Finally, my stomach feels as though it is about to combust at any moment, it is so full of babies. It’s okay though, it just means the twins are growing, so I’m fine with it.
Milestones: My weight is still following along the guidelines of my OB/GYN, a pound a week. So far I have gained 10lbs, hooray! Genki Husband and I have noticed I have gained all the weight in my belly and breasts, so that’s a great sign of success of my food and exercise plan.
I’m Excited About: Sharing with everyone the gender of our twins! It’s hard waiting until week 20 to get a 100% confirmation of the gender of babies. Now that we know, it is very hard to keep it a secret to not insult close family members from not knowing first. Additionally, I am excited to see our babies once again this week at our OB/GYN delivery doctor’s appointment. (2 doctors, 1x a month) It’s exciting to share the gender and information from our specialist with our normal office/staff.
I’m Nervous About: Admittedly, I am less nervous for many things right now after our specialist appointment. Once your specialist does all the measurements (I’ll write about the appointment later), then tells you your twins are absolutely perfect and your cervix is in great shape, it is less of a worry. One would think I would not worry at all however this is not the case, I still wake up at night occasionally worrying if I am taking in enough food to supple the needs of our twins. It’s a mother-to-be thing, I guess…
Exercise: Southern California is getting much warmer, dare I say close to perfect weather? This means I am able to get outside, soak up those wonderful, essential Vitamin D enriched rays and get my pregnant body moving. I know it’s totally wrong of me, however, I love walking my normal route and passing people along the path, thinking “Ha! I’m pregnant with twins and passing you!” See, I have a slight evil side, lol. It’s wonderful seeing so many others out on the path I take though, everyone should get a little movement each day if possible. Being able to move is just a blessing that should never be taken advantage.
Other thoughts and feelings: This past weekend we went shopping once again, Buy Buy Baby staff our personally employed by our purchases. The staff knows us as the couple having twins. Each time we go in there, the staff mentions how wonderful it is we are getting prepare early. We were told this last trip how someone 30 weeks pregnant was shopping for her twins just before going into the hospital. They said she looked so sore, scary! So on this trip, we were able to purchase our stroller with the second seat attachment since it is a double stroller. We did a lot of research and were thrilled to finally pick one out and bring it home. Tip: Buy Buy Baby does price compare with all stores, including online stores. Next up: Car seats and swivel/rocking chair.
Note: If you have any suggestions for a twin pregnancy, I would love to hear your comments. Or just anything in general, advice is always accepted and appreciated. Books and medical professionals can only give so much information, personal experience is sometimes much better than anything else.
