SoCal is getting a bit hot out in the desert, so it is a blessing we have a swimming pool in our backyard. Don’t worry, this post isn’t one of bragging, just survival in the high desert. For this reason, Memorial Day, we were so blessed to share our cold pool with new friends from my husbands’ work. The temperature soared to around 100F/38C, a light breeze creating a conflicting sensation but one that was more enjoyable with a group of people.
Having lived in various states, we would definitely mark California as one of the most trivial, as far as weather is the determining factor. To get a better meaning to this statement, imagine living in Virginia when the temps reach around 100F/38C, the humidity coinciding would most likely be near 90-100%, making it a bit miserable. Now travel to the high desert and although it is just as hot, there is 20% humidity or less every day. It’s hard to get a grasp of this until one walks from the hot heat of the full sunshine to the shade of a single tree and the temperature drops at least 10 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s hard to wrap my arm around it, especially since one does not really sweat in the desert. Or rather, one sweats but it instantly evaporates. (Something I’m still trying to get used to while working out.) So with this in mind, the pool is the best place to be during the hot days in the SoCal high desert. Hence, here are some workouts that might get you inspired to do calorie burner instead of a lounger out there in the sunshine. (Click on the photo for the workout)
Enjoy your pool workout, please always remember to wear sun protection and reapply every few hours.
