Blaze Pizza Restaurant in South Bend, IN Vegan Options

Vegans have it a bit more difficult when living outside of the main center stage areas of NYC, LA, Houston and so on.  That does not mean it is impossible to find options in small town America though, it just means you have to be more diligent in searching for places that cater to everyone and not just carnivores.  So when I heard there was a new pizza place coming in to our town of South Bend, Indiana, I prayed it was going to be a place that offered vegan cheese.  And guess what?!  It worked because there is now a vegan pizza option in our small town, just outside the University of Notre Dame campus.  Seriously there were no words to express how excited I was to hear of this opening!  See what we found for vegans: (Video Included!)

Vegan Pizza from Blaze Pizza in South Bend, Indiana

Shall we just take a moment for that pizza?  Can you tell we had a blast choosing what toppings we wanted to put on our pizza that day?  There were so many options to choose from we felt like kids in a candy store with an unlimited budget.

So let’s start with a pros and cons list for Blaze Pizza:

  • Vegan Cheese
  • Endless Vegetables to Choose from the buffet
  • Fresh ingredients are used
  • Ability to choose as many toppings as wanted (amazing option for vegans)
  • Ability to build ones’ own pizza
  • Super Fast & Friendly Service
  • Fire Roasted to Order
  • Ordering can be done online
  • Calories are given for all ingredients
  • Plenty of seating available inside and outside
  • Super Reasonably priced

  • Pizzas are not calorie free
  • One does have to wait in line to order and rush to front of the line
  • Daiya Cheese does cost an additional $2 per pizza
  • No delivery option

So what did we order and how:  Before heading out to the restaurant we did do our research so basically by the time we got to the front of the line we were more than prepared to get everything on our list.  We ordered the Build Your Own pizza which allows you to add unlimited toppings on your pizza and then added the additional $2 Vegan cheese.  It’s a little pricy for vegan cheese considering we did not order dairy cheese but that’s what we get for being healthy, animal loving eaters.  In the end it’s worth the price seeing as we loaded our pizza with veggies.  Our included: basic marinara, daiya cheese, artichokes, roasted garlic, banana peppers, spinach, onions, mushrooms and basil.

As you can probably already tell we were amazed at how delicious this pizza was on our first trip.  Now we did go in the first two weeks of being open so we want to go back again and test it after it has had time to settle down.  But we are pretty confident it is just as good as the first few weeks of being open.  Genki Husband and I shared one pizza when we probably should have had two pizza for the two of us.  (Or was it the 4 hours of pickle ball before we went to eat?)  The pizzas are not exactly thin crust nor thick, somewhere in between.  We would definitely recommend this pizza restaurant to anyone in the area and we will definitely be going back again.

Have you been to a Blaze Pizza location?  It is a franchise so even if you do not live here you can check them out in other locations.  Our location is placed just across from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, USA.
