Sometimes you drive in a new location and there is a name of an establishment that just really catches your eye? Well, we were caught off guard the other day when we drove past Evil Czech Brewery in Mishawaka, Indiana. I mean, how could someone just pass a restaurant with that name? We knew it was our destiny. Sometimes we just dive in without caring about vegan options availability. I guess with a brewery, even if they don’t have vegan food, there is always beer. It’s a win-win situation. UPDATE HERE! NO LONGER VEGAN!
It was when we entered this brewery I started to think, okay maybe living in Indiana won’t be that bad after-all. It has an upbeat atmosphere inside and the waitstaff is not stuffed in white suits and traditional Midwestern in appearance. If you are from this area, you know what I’m talking about with this comment. Diners can either have something off the extensive menu or dine on the large buffet that is right in front of the chef window pictured above.
Seated in the main section of the restaurant, one can see all the vats of beer brewing away. We had a few different types of beers and shared around the table and everything was so delicious! I’m not a large beer person but the chocolate beer was my favorite – highly suggested! Mmmm
Said delicious chocolate beer!
This is the coaster for said delicious beer. There are just these simple touches all around that make a restaurant perfect.
On to the Vegan Food!!!
One thing I am not sure if you know about me, I love, love, love pizza!!!! It’s one of the few ‘American’ entrees I actually enjoy. This was a vegan approved ‘Veg Out’ pizza that had shredded spinach on top. It was created in a wood oven! yes, I ate the entire thing myself… okay, I lie I had help. haha
Genki Husband on the other hand always has to test out the vegan Black Bean Burger (minus the cheese) at restaurants. He was brought up by a meat and potato type family so he can’t help it. The burgers are all brought out in wooden boxes made and designed by the owner.
A view from the top of the burger since it was worth a second view. Genki Husband said he would definitely be having this again. He actually wanted to order another one and take it home for the next day. I’m guessing that means he enjoyed it.
There are a few other options that are easily made vegan, these are just two options we chose. Everything is made to order so go ahead and enjoy whatever you want! Our waiter was super helpful and he knew what everything contained and knew what vegans ate. So do not fear this restaurant if you are vegan. As a note: everything is supposed to be locally sourced when possible (not in the winter here though).
