Whew! What a weekend! The weather is always a surprise right around spring time in Virginia. Last week we were freezing and this weekend we hit around 70F. One just never knows what to wear so we have to wear what is called “layer weather” gear. It just means you wear just about every layer you can find for each type of weather (Hot, warm, cold, rainy, sunny, etc). It even crossed my mind to get out my swimming suit – Genki Husband frowned upon that one especially seeing as it is already packed in a taped up box. Even though I would never tell him, I suppose he was correct that I was overestimating the temperatures.
Great donuts but terrible customer service.
Working on the latest blog entry for my tea collection! Oddly enough I was at Starbucks writing about tea…
So on Saturday we adventured out in the chilly 30F temps to Starbucks, our second home away from home lately. Thankfully we have the Gold Membership card for them, otherwise we would literally be signing our paychecks away to them lately. Hint: If you love coffee and Starbucks, get a gift card and signup for earning points online. After 6 drinks (a star for each visit you purchase something), you get a free drink or a special offer for 50% off a second drink. It does add up – so it’s definitely worth it. Unfortunately they did take away the free soymilk option but that’s okay because now we spend less and just get regular coffees. That’s my money-saving tip- sorry I’m not one of those genius extreme couponers that one sees on tv. How do they do that? Tips are always appreciated in the comments section.
Easy lunch of steamed broccoli, steamed carrots, head of romaine lettuce, & blackened sea salt seasoned tofu. Sides of Vegan homemade ranch dressing and hummus.
After our trip to Starbucks we did some general shopping but unfortunately really did not find anything on our list. Again, we saved money – hooray! LOL We took our defeated list back home and did some more packing for our move. Just a couple more weeks now and we are no longer Commonwealth of Virginia residents. After that we just sat outside on our porch taking in the sunshine of the high 60′s and full sunshine. To end the day we decided it was sunny enough to get outside and go for a much needed run (did you read the OUTSIDE part?). It was so nice to finally get outside for a run, we almost ran a second time around the route just because it was so nice to be outside the confined walls of the gym.
Asian Noodle test trial against each other. Vietnamese, Thai, & Korean. All are accidentally vegan!
Accidentally Vegan Vietnamese Pho! This was actually not bad. It’s not the healthiest but let’s face it, instant noodles aren’t health food.
Sunday was another sunny day and we were so surprised when we saw the temperatures once again climb into the positive numbers, around 70F today. We of course took advantage of another sunny day and took to packing indoors. We are around 90% finished but it’s always those last few boxes of miscellaneous items that are the hardest to put together. We have weird shaped items like a grandmother clock, Japanese katana, instruments and wine cooler that seem to take a lot of time to properly pack and secure for road travel. Yes these items could be packed by professionals but I’m one of those people that have issues with other packing my things. Does this mean I’m a control freak? Or does anyone else have this issue too?
Purging items that are no longer needed had us putting a full adult chair in our Prius and taking it to charity.
After our light morning, we decided to take an older chair to Goodwill in our Prius, yes you really can fit a lot in there! We drove all the way to the Goodwill truck (no store within 30 mins) to find that they do not really take used furniture anymore (it has to be in brand new condition). Strange, isn’t it? Charity used to just be charity. So we decided to place our two chairs on Craigslist and within an hour we had more than a handful of people asking for them. So it all turned out in the end.
Tons of leftover veggies with cubed vegan sausages makes a wonderful light vegan meal.
Vegan un-fried rice made with tons of veggies, Japanese steamed rice, vegan sausages diced and topped with homemade caper tomato sauce. Side dish of vegan chickenless nuggets.
In the afternoon it was gorgeous again so we decided to take another run outside in the sunshine – we were spoiled. This time around we went another 2 miles since it just was so nice to be outside. Running outside really is a different world than running inside – it clears the mind and soul. I’m a gym bunny but still love running outside to relieve stress and anxiety. Anyone with me on this one? Finally we finished the night with some more move planning and playing with the furry babies. At last we sat down together under our newly crocheted afghan to watch Ponyo, by our favorite Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki (宮崎 駿) . Good but My Neighbor Totoro and Kiki’s Delivery Service are still my favorites.
Hopefully ya’ll remembered to change over your clock time if your location does so for Spring. How was your weekend?
Genki Furry Baby sleeping on project I made from directions on Pinterest! Supervising to humans while packing is very hard work, a nap was only necessary.
